Meet Alice, my great grandmother and the namesake for the Alice bow. A lovely lady, my maternal grandfather's mother who lived in Pennsylvania and had 4 children, 3 daughters and a son: my grandfather. She passed years ago when I was a very small child but I cherish the stories about her that have been passed down to me and I was pleased to honor her by wearing her engagement ring on my wedding day.
My great grandfather Frank proposed to Alice on Christmas in 1925 with a gorgeous white sapphire set in a hexagon mounting of white gold antique filigree. My mother wore it on her wedding day. And almost 100 years after Frank asked for Alice’s hand in marriage, I too wore it on my wedding day.
